Leadership & Service Honor Societies

There are several honor societies at Florida Atlantic University that recognize superior academic performance, as well as leadership and service accomplishment.

The National Society of Leadership and Success

The NSLS Society is the nation’s largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction. With 526 chapters, the Society currently has 670,000 members nationwide. The Society provides a step-by-step program for members to build their leadership skills through on-campus and on-line participation. Upon completion, members receive their leadership certificate and take their place among the top student leaders at their campus and across the country. The Society was founded with the sole purpose of creating lasting positive change and encourages community action; volunteerism, personal growth and strong leadership from its chapters and members.

Invitations for membership are done on a semester-basis. Invitations are done electronically by email for prospective members. Invitations to join the Society take place in September and in January, with most materials completed within the semester students accept their invitation.

Additionally, NSLS has the opportunity to offer the On-Line Chapter for students. The on-line Chapter is designed for students that have been extended an invitation to join and are distant learners or are unable to accomplish the in-person, on-campus participation. Questions of this option should be addressed to the NSLS advisor at  nsls@danieldaverne.com

The FAU Chapter of NSLS works collaboratively with the national office and representatives to support all new members through the process of membership induction.

Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society

Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, was founded December 3, 1914 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia by 15 student and faculty leaders. The founders formulated the idea that leadership of exceptional quality and versatility in college should be recognized, that representatives in all phases of college life should cooperate in worthwhile endeavors, and that outstanding students, faculty, and administrators should meet on a basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness.  OΔK® was the first college honor society of a national scope to give recognition and honor for meritorious leadership and service in extracurricular activities and to encourage development of general campus citizenship. There are more than 300 active circles across the country.

The FAU Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa was founded at FAU in the Spring of 2010. The FAU Circle strives to foster peer inspiration and maximize members’ leadership potential on campus as well as to enhance their impact on the community. The FAU Circle prides itself on the values of Leadership, Achievement, Community and Diversity.

The FAU Chapter is currently inactive. Plans to re-activate the chapter will take place during the summer and fall 2021 semesters.
